Overlord Challenge in the Duel of Swords!

By TERA DESTRE

Overlady Karen Wilder was challenged by Baron Damien Mortis on May 11, 2006.

She chose Cassius Maxius to test this Baron, as is her right as Overlady, however the Baron had a plan of his own and the really nice guy Skyler stepped up to face the test for him. The thing to remember here, faithful readers, is since both are Warlords Overlady Karen would have had the right to grant the winner Damien's Barony if she chose and had Cass won then Damien's right to challenge was forfeit.

But things didn't end here because in a last minute intercession, due to a rule that is very seldom used Rakeesh, the Baron of New Haven, stepped in and squared off against the Warlord Cass and won the duel thus giving Damien the right to press his challenge on Overlady Karen in a one duel match for the title of Overlord of the Duel of Swords.

In a Duel well-fought by both, Damien ended up defeating the current Overlady Karen to become the new ruling Overlord in the Arena!

All Hail the new Overlord, Damien Mortis!!

Duel of Fists Diamond Quest XLV!!!

By TERA DESTRE

On April 29, 2006 there were five entries in this latest of the most prestigious of all The Outback events.

Mr. Diamond himself, Matt Simon, was of course there and the current reigning Diamond, Tarl Cabot, as well as the Opal, Shadoweaver, holder Rakeesh Sah Tarna, and Emerald rank holders Xerzes Maureen and Harris D'Artainian.

Each entrant fought with skill, bravery, and guts as they sought that most coveted award, a flawless Diamond, along with the rank and privilege that it

brings in to the holder. Xerzes was having an off night it appeared as he lost 4 of 4 matches to go home first.

Harris and Rakeesh both won two of theirs in this Round Robin style tournament. Tarl ended up in second place in this DQ as he and Matt faced off in the squared circle with each of them having no loses in the last match of the evening.

After it was all over this reporter heard Matt telling Tarl that he had no choice but to win because his wife Koy had wanted more jewelry and this was his way of getting her some.

Archmage Challenge!!

By TERA DESTRE

Will Wulfson Defended his title of Archmage of the Duel of Magic against Tiny Topaz on May 9, 2006.

The current Archmage chose to use Nether Ray and Immolation and Topaz Nether Ray as this highly anticipated challenge got underway on Twilight Isle where magic abounds and goblins are available to serve the participants cold and hot beverages of their choice between duels if requested of them.

These two have met many times in the rings and are known for their valiantly dueled sorcerous ways. The first duel stayed close with the lead constantly changing from one to the other and back again keeping the spectators on the edge of their seats. It ended up going a full 18

rounds before Wulfson finally ended it by setting Topaz's incoming mage bolt on fire!

After getting off to a shaky start in the second duel Topaz made a stunning comeback to take this one right out from under the reigning Archmage 5-4 by using a foul fog to distract his senses as Wulfson was attempting to cast a reflection to deceive her!

The final duel of the challenge Will dominated winning with a score of 5.5-2 in a mere 6 rounds to hold his title of Archmage. Here are a few of his stats. This is his 4th successful defense this reign. He is the only person to have more than that and the total was 6 in one reign. This is his 5th reign as Archmage. Out of the last 8 years he has been Archmage for 3 of them.

Duelers with Des

By TERA DESTRE

Delroy McCloud
Preferred Dueling Areas: Swords, Fists

I had the good fortune to be able to sit down with Delroy McCloud, one of the fastest rising stars in the sport of Dueling, one Monday evening in The Outback over a couple of drinks. Always quick with a smile and to go a round or two in a ring with anyone willing; this flamberge wielder was kind enough to answer my questions in what I could tell was a well thought out and sincere manner.

When asked about his not Dueling on Twilight Isle where they hold Duels of Magic the newest Warlord in Swords replied, "Magic, however, is still a lost art to me." This Dueler has made a name for himself in the Arena among other Duelers for his meteoric-like rise in the ranks. In a mere five weeks he made it to the coveted rank of Warlord which means he could find himself in the position to challenge for a Barony in a matter of one weekend's Dueling were he to set his mind to it!

He mentioned to me that he likes the Dragon's Gate area of town, which just happens to be right where the Red Dragon Inn is, but that he hasn't really been around the Arena long enough to

make all that many friends and likewise any real enemies so he isn't ready to give any serious thought to challenging any of the current Baron's ring yet.

Like many in the Arena Delroy has been keeping up with the current bruhaha over the Overlord challenge that happened back on May 11th between then Overlady Karen Wilder and now Overlord Damien Mortis.

I did ask him specifically for his thoughts on the 9,500 silver noble bounty that Overlord Mortis has placed on the Renegade Rakeesh and his reply was, "... like many others, I felt that Rakeesh's actions were out of line... Come to think of it, that bounty could come in handy... I might have to think about New Haven."

Warlord McCloud had some advice for those that might be thinking of taking up the sport of dueling. He told me that he felt a person should duel well and duel often and that when they had the opportunity to duel against those more experienced they should, so that they could learn from them. This reporter would like to add that I have yet to see Delroy turn down a challenge to a duel from anyone either in the Arena or The Outback.

We talked about what direction he saw his future taking whether he wanted to advance in the sport of Fists or Swords and he sees himself leaning more toward Overlord rather than becoming a Diamond because he feels the Overlord commands more respect than the Diamonds do and although he claims he is nowhere near ready to hold that position, he does aspire to become Overlord of the Duel of Swords one day.
