Editor Mauled At Red Dragon Inn!

By TERA STARFARE
August 23, 2006

During the Duel of Magic visit to the Red Dragon Inn on this Wednesday evening a slight oversight was made which resulted in a tiny misunderstanding that had disastrous consequences for The Oracle's very own beloved Editor-in-chief, Amaltea thu-Darelir.

The goblins, and at least one Red Dragon Inn bar tender, who shall remain nameless (Editor note: The name of this tender starts with Des and ends with tre), responsible for moving the rings to be used for dueling when setting them up in the common room for the patrons to duel within forgot to reset the wards that keep the combative magic used within them inside of them thus allowing the spells to at times fly free into the unsuspecting crowd of onlookers.

This did result in quite spectacular displays at random intervals during the evening as mage bolts and wizard blades whizzed over the heads of people but thankfully no deaths and no life threatening injuries occurred. The foul fogs that were released were another matter entirely however and it may take a few days, to weeks, to clear the stench fully from the common room even with all the windows, front, and rear doors continually propped open. There were some very nasty foul fogs released!

It was during one duel that apparently a spell went awry and struck a stack of crates behind the bar which caused them to topple over. It was with disbelief that this reporter saw the first one to fall strike a glancing blow to Panther's shoulder and smash the tankard that he had been drinking from not a moment before. My horror only grew as a second toppled over splintering directly across his back.

What happened next was like a scene from a nightmare faithful readers as The Oracle's Editor-in-chief found herself suddenly facing a wild BEAST! The only thing missing was a bared fang snarl I tell you here and now. Amaltea shrieked and took off running as any sane person would when faced with a deadly predator like Panther had become in less than a heartbeat!

He leaped a good TEN FEET in one bound chasing her as she fled for her very LIFE as he did appear ready to devour her for seemingly just standing behind the bar quietly visiting with this reporter at the time the spell might have accidentally escaped from the ring and sent the crates toppling over on top of the Proprietor of the Inn.

Thankfully our Editor is fleet of foot when needed and did manage to make it out of the Inn alive, laughing on her way out. But then in a very strange turn of events as soon as she made it out of the door safely Panther straightened, brushed off his shoulder, then casually turned and strolled back to the bar chuckling.

Leaving me to think he knew the crates falling over on top of him had not been caused by a magic spell going astray but by two women that had carefully plotted, planned, and executed that plan with the intention of not getting caught except by a feline with extremely acute hearing and that we been taught a lesson about what happens when one grabs a "panther" by the tail.

A New Temple?

By LADY WYHEREE

I took a walk through the Temple District, anxious to see if the rumors I had heard while visiting the Red Dragon Inn were true – that a Temple just appeared overnight, after an unusual astronomical occurrence on August 1st. The moon hung in the sky with the sun, and the higher the moon rose, the more it seemed to glow with an eerie red light – resembling blood.

As I arrived, I noticed that there was indeed a new temple – standing just across the street from the well-established Temple of Divine Light. The Temple of Myr'Khul, as I discovered its name to be through a series of inquiries, had a set of bloodstone steps leading up to a black-steel platform. On the platform is a large Temple, held together with what I assume to be Necromancy, created entirely from bones. Where the bones originated, I could find no one to say. Everyone seemed in fear of those who entered this unholy place, the entryway looking much like a fanged mouth, looking to devour those who would enter. Just being near the place chilled me.

As I continued my walk, I found many homes for sale and many buildings abandoned. The tension was thick, especially near The Temple of Divine Light. Never was I so glad to return to the office and work - the new Temple seems very dangerous.

Youths Sought For Questioning

There has been a rash of children escaping their governesses and nannies of late in the downtown area of the city. Normally this would not be of any concern to the police, wardens, and detectives of the Watch.

However apparently these have taken to leaving in their wake horrifying examples of their misdeeds that caused one matron to swoon resulting in her near fatal drowning in the fountain located in the town square when she saw little pink pasties covering the nipples of the female statue that graces the center of the fountain.

Luckily the RhyDin paramedic squad was nearby having already been called to aide an elderly gentleman that had fallen and was not getting back up. In a strange turn of events it was noted that a bottle of RhyDin Springs Water was lying on it's side not to far away from his outstretched cold dead hand.

The paramedic squad pronouncing the elderly gentleman upon first site another one for "the vultures" (also known as the morgue attendants) not them and quite upset with having been taken away from their lunch over at the Dancing Dragon Cantina were overjoyed to hear the loud splash as the matron in her finery made use of the public fountain as her private bath necessitating their resuscitating her.

Dragon Crystals Found

By BRANDI FLAME

As I sat in my desk at the office thinking of going out to catch a story my friend Pauline Crewe knocked on my door. I was surprised, as I hadn't seen her in 17 years.

As I let her in she was panting and gulping down some water I had on my desk in a glass. I was shocked and asked her why she had come here. She turned to me and began to tell her story. It turns

out that Pauline had gone to the Marketplace where she had noticed a traveler rummaging through a brown paper bag.

My friend thought they were a robber and pulled out her pet, Beanie, who chased him which spooked the traveler causing them to run away leaving the paper bag behind. She then went over and grabbed the paper bag and brought it here to my office. By this time in the story Pauline was excited and I was restraining my laughter. But I asked her to go on as it was clear there was more to this.

She had opened the bag and found four crystals. Then discovered that where the man had been standing was a big, flat, square stone that she could easily pick up with two hands. Engraved on it were places to put the crystals but she didn't put them there because she didn't know what they might do. Instead she had brought the bag back here to tell me all about it. It may be possible there was a book that said something about this that was thought to have been fiction that now may be non-fiction.

In conclusion Pauline and I have decided to keep the crystal's location a secret for we do not know what they will cause, whether it be destruction or peace we cannot let either happen.
