The Duel Of Swords Has Its 70th Overlord!

By TERA STARFARE
August 21, 2006

I'm bringing this one to you straight from the cork board in The Arena as I can't put it any better than Imp did there folks!

What a night! WHAT! A! NIGHT!

It was bloody! Blood, guts, gore everywhere!!

You see, Cory challenged, Damien's lawyer said ok.

Damien's second was Bapheloc, and he dueled under the flag of Polaris. His Lady of Honor was the lovely Arane.

Cory dueled under the banner of the Golden Sun Stables, the silhouette of a stallion in front of a setting sun. His color was blue, like me! His Lady of Honor was the hottie Anjolie Quinn and his Second was Topaz Datrazanov.

But just when things were gonna get busy Damien said uh-huh and sent Bapheloc to test Cory. Cass said "Hell no!" and stepped in the ring for Cory. Things didn't look very good for Cass, by round seven the score was 4-2 in favor of Baph.

Johnathan Ecorian "Cory" Havoick

Then Bapheloc scored one more point and is Cory's turn to get in the ring!

Cory gets in the ring and it looked like Baph was going to win this one too, by round seven the score was 3-1 in Bapheloc's favor. Then Cory opened a can of whoop-ass and went on scoring the other four points to secure the win and the right to challenge.

So, this is it. The biggie. Damien and Cory step in the ring and it was a constant trade, Cory hits, Damien ties, Cory hits, Damien ties. Bloody duel! It went on like that for the first six rounds. Then on round seven Cory hits, to get the score to 4-3 in his favor. Just when you thought Damien was going to tie the score again, Cory defends against the attack to get the point and the bloody win!!

After 8 rounds, Cory is the new Overlord!!!!

All hail Cory! The 70th Overlord of the Duel of Swords!!!!

Vanion Challenges Brigath For The Tower Of Air Yet Again!

By TERA STARFARE
August 24, 2006

Vanion Shadowcast

Details are sketchy on this challenge match but what I do know is this isn’t the first time that Vanion has attempted to take this Tower from Brigath. It is the third time now. The first was back on May 11, 2005 with the second on June 15th of this year. This actually makes a total of 8 successful defenses for Brigath counting this one.

I have heard Vanion is already planning to challenge Brigath again as this is the only Tower he has not yet held the keys to on the Isle except the highly coveted Celestial Tower of the Archmage which I am certain he also has his eye on knowing him.

Duel Of Magic's All Ranks Tournament

By TERA STARFARE
August 7, 2006

This tournament was single elimination and any dueler was able to enter. All were allowed one advanced spell that had to be chosen in advance no matter what their current ranking was in the sport. The goblins furnished various flavors of ice cream, which is their speciality, and for this grand and glorious night they even had blood popsicles available on the Isle!

There were a total of 11 entrants when all was said and done which made for quite an evening of for those that were able to attend. Cash prizes were awarded for first and second place and honorable mention was given to the caster that claimed third.

Artemus Kurgen made it through undefeated to win the 1,500 silver. Cory Havoick came in second to earn himself 750 silver. Azjah Drachen Walde survived to place third in this field of spell slingers that were no slouches!

The Opal Icedancer Changes Hands!

By TERA STARFARE
August 29, 2006

It was my honor to officiate the Challenge Match between Vincent VM Smith and Anubis Karos for the Opal Icedancer on August 29, 2006 in Battlefield Park. There was only a small crowd gathered and they was pretty quiet.

The first fight started off with Vinny pulling back fit to lay Anubis out flat but the Egyptian pulled out the moves and got himself out of the way of that there fist in fine style and it was on! Vinny continued his attacking and did connect for the next 2 straight rounds in a row and it looked like Anubis was in big trouble I'm here to tell y'all.

That was when IT began to happen. Anubis faked Vinny out by making like he was gonna give him a toss and Vinny pulled back that chop he was intending to deliver so neither one of them scored. Then he faked him out by jumping straight up in the air instead of kicking him. But then he kicked Vinny for real and they were tied up at 3 all just that quick!

Well Anubis then tried to slug Vinny but he wasn't having none of that and got himself right on away from that fist while delivering a slug of his own on the way by. They then both were doing some stuff that they weren't really doing so we all were just watching for a little bit waiting for them to actually do something again.

After 9 rounds we ended up at SUDDEN DEATH then in the next round Anubis hauled off and punched Vinny before he could kick him to take the win in the first fight at 5 - 4. They both didn't want a break so they immediately commenced to fighting again!

Vinny pulled back and let go nailing the challenger to start the second fight and it was on once more! BUT then IT began to happen again. Anubis faked Vinny out gaining himself a point. Then there was GLORY in that there ring as they both hauled off and slugged each other!

After that Vinny pulled out Cory's trademark FU and connected in true brawling style! I couldn't believe my eyes though as sure enough the very next round Anubis got his own back when he connected with a CHUMP TOSS! This here left them tied up at 3 a piece after only 5 short rounds so far. BUT Anubis then went on to score two more unanswered points in succession which gave him the victory as well as the Opal, Icedancer.

The Tower of Water Keeper Tournament

By TERA STARFARE
August 8, 2006

Jonothan Slava

On July 31st Farek retired as the Keeper of the Tower of Water which left this Tower vacant. In order to pass the key on there was a tournament held among those mages eligible that were available. They were according to the notice left by Rissa who called this tournament in order of seeding: Jono, Tass, Xerzes, Azjah, Joku, Vincent, and Random. This was a single elimination tournament format.

After the first round only Tass, Xerzes and Joku advanced. After the second it was Xerzes and Jono battling it out in the ring for the actual key to this Tower. When the last spell was cast Jono had defeated Xerzes and now holds the key to the Tower of Water on Twilight Isle!

Duelers with Des

By TERA STARFARE

Johnathan Ecorian "Cory" Haviock
Preferred Dueling Areas: Swords

It was my great honor and a real pleasure to sit down in the Arena on the evening of August 24th with the 70th Overlord of the Duel of Swords. He was sitting with his lovely lady, Anjolie Quinn, and it just so happened they were celebrating a very momentous event this evening.

Right before I walked over to join them his lady had completed a bout in the rings that gained her the title of Warlord in this great sport. Their happiness and joy in this extremely difficult to attain accomplishment was a delight for me to behold. Noting this I couldn't resist the opportunity to speak with Quinn as well so look for her interview in an upcoming issue of The Oracle!

But this month is Cory who when I asked him what sports he participated in had this to say: "An'awhere there's duelin' Ya gunna find m'name. Be it here in the Arena, the Outback, on the Isle."

When I did a little background research for this interview on Cory I found that not only is he currently the Overlord which is the highest ranking dueler in Swords over in the Duel of Fists he is ranked as an Emerald which is second only to holding an Opal there the highest rank next to their top rank of Diamond.

My next stop was the Duel of Magic standings where I found the same information on Cory. There is ranked at as Mage which is second only to a Mage Emeritus and the ArchMage rank which is their highest. Obviously this man can kick butt with the best of them and come out on the other side still standing no matter what sport he may chose for an evening’s entertainment with his lady.

I did ask him if he had a favorite sport and if so why and he had this to say: "I really enjoy duelin' wit' swords. There's a lot o' passion in those rings there." Having watched him dueling over the past several months while I was working I can see that he is very passionate about the sport as he spent several very difficult weeks gaining enough peer wins to challenge for the title he now holds of Overlord.

I went on to ask if Cory had any plans to make any changes because I have a feeling that if he has a mind to he could do great things with so many Barons that are loyal to him and therefore so much support in the community. He had this reply: "I'd like to see our numb'as increase like the ol' days when I go' started. We're workin' some thin's out to possibly correct tha', but I gotta keep tha' und'a wraps fo' now. I do have a specific Tournament I 'ad in mind." However he would say no more on the subject than that.

When Cory isn't stabbing, punching, or throwing mage bolts at people he enjoys spending time at the Golden Sun Stables that Quinn owns working with the horses. His advice to new duelers is: "Dun get discouraged, keep fightin' 'til ya can't breathe 'n ya muscles ache. Then fight s'mo'. Ya can't win'em all."

And a last quote from Cory: "Y'think ya good wit' a blade, brawlin' o' slingin' some spells? Why dun'cha try steppin' in'ta the ring and prove wha'cha go'?"
