Outside of Panther and a very few others, this reporter has probably known Kairee longer than anyone else currently in RhyDin. It is therefore appropriate for this reporter to sit down and interview this important resident of our city. This will be the first of a two-part interview.
I met Kairee at the Red Dragon Inn where she can often be found. We went to a booth where we could be alone and sat down for the following discussion. She uncrossed and re crossed her long, splendiferous legs and said that I can ask what I will, and she may or may not provide an answer.
TOReporter: "Fair enough. We've known each other for a long time, Kai. I remember meeting you back around December of '93. So tell me, how did you first come to RhyDin?"
Kairee: "I teleported."
TOReporter: "Teleported? From where?"
Kairee: "Avalon
not that *Avalon* but the other one. Why does it matter?"
TOReporter: "Well, I don't know if anyone has been here longer than you, and I'm sure our readers would be interested in hearing what things were like in the beginning. What did you find when you first came to RhyDin?"
Kairee: "Essentially just the Inn and it was much more rustic than it is now."
TOReporter: "I see. Speaking of the famous Red Dragon Inn, most people here think that Panther is the proprietor of the Inn, but in reality, you are. How did you come to own the Red Dragon Inn?"
Kairee: "It's complicated babes. Let's just say that the Nexus chose me and I chose Panther, and Nexus agreed to him."
TOReporter: "The Nexus chose you to be the sole proprietor of the Inn, and you chose Panther. Did you choose him to run things while you were away, or just to be your partner?"
Kairee: "You ask as if it's a traditional business. It's much more than that, Gav-Babes. The nature of Panth's and my agreement is not for public consumption. It serves no good interest to discuss it."
TOReporter: "Fair enough. Did you give the name to the Inn."
Kairee: "No. It was always the Red Dragon Inn"
TOReporter: "So when you came here, it was already the RDI, but much more rustic at that time. What's the biggest difference that you see at the inn these days compared to say ten or fifteen years ago?"
Kairee: The corners of her lips tug slightly as if struggling with a laugh. "The more things change, babes, the more they stay the same. The trappings may change, the town may have grown, but in essentials
" She left the rest unsaid.
TOReporter: "Okay, let's move to something a little more personal. Please tell me about Gondar. What was he like? What was your relationship with him like?"
Kairee: The question evidently took Kairee by surprise. There was a long period of silence, then she spoke. "That, babes, is very personal. Gondar was the best at whatever he took his hand to. He was very good to me and cared for me as he cared for no other. He was not bound by the conventions of others, and he fully accepted me without judgment, and never tried to control me. We were well suited to each other."
TOReporter: "You were never 'married' in the traditional sense, is that right?"
Kairee: Though she remained in perfect composure, this reporter could see her chest heave slightly and a burst if emotion in her eyes as we discussed Gondar. "Does it matter? Marriage rites differ across every culture. Being married means nothing to so many as they violate their vows and fail in their sworn obligations. What matters is behavior and how the couple interacts and what they do for each other."

TOReporter: "That is true. I can tell you miss him very much. What's the best memory that you have of the two of you together?"
Kairee: "No. You ask too much. As you know, for you are one of the few that had seen him, Gondar was a very private person. Our relationship is private."
TOReporter: This reporter is indeed one of the few around today who had to privilege of meeting him. "Fair enough. Let's move to the present. Is there someone special in your life at this time?"
Kairee: She looked around for a moment, then asked for a drink. I had two gin martinis, (Tanqueray, dirty and dry) brought over for us. After the drinks were delivered, I toasted "To friendship," and she responded, "To friendship - may it prove itself true."
TOReporter: "Okay, ready to answer that last question?"
Kairee: She toyed with her drink and gave this reporter a teasing smile. "You know the answer; our affections have been too public to be missed."
TOReporter: "I've seen you with Brax. Is he the lucky man who has won your interest?"
Kairee: "Braxeus," she said, correcting me.
TOReporter: "Okay, I guess that answers my question. If I'm not being too bold, you are noted the realm over for your very beautiful and shapely legs. In fact, there is nearly a trademark on the name 'Splendiferous Legs'. Who was the first to describe your legs with that term?"
Kairee: She gave this reporter a dazzling smile and said, "I don't know. Some clever lad no doubt." She continued with a tease, "Perhaps it was you."
TOReporter: "I wish I could say it was me, but I remember your legs being described that way when I first met you; and, I should say, most appropriately."
TOReporter: "Is there a common misconception of you that you'd like to correct here in The Oracle?"
Kairee: "What do you mean?"
TOReporter: "Well, people often make wrong assumptions about us. People assume that I'm just a big flirt and can't make a commitment, which is absolutely wrong. I'm forever fully committed and faithful to Des. I was wondering if there is something that you'd like to correct - some misconception."
Kairee: "Babes! People are going to believe what they want to believe no matter what I say. If they are interested in the truth, they can ask me directly. If they aren't, why should I care what they think? Why should you care?"
TOReporter: "Well, I like to set people straight wherever I can. This would be an opportunity for you if you want to take it."
Kairee: "Honestly, Sweet, I don't see why I should. As I said, if someone wants to know something they can ask. I may or may not answer depending on the question but if I answer, it will be honestly. If they don't ask, they either have no interest or want to believe what they want to believe. If that's the case, it's of little concern to me."
TOReporter: "Okay, that's a fair and honest answer. Many people think that you are just another pretty face sitting at the bar. They don't realize the power that you have to wield. Would you offer a description of some of the resources you have available to you?"
Kairee: "Reporter, let me ask you, how many Mages do you know? Not the hedge wizards or witches but true mages, those with real power?"
TOReporter: "Well, beside the Archmage of Westridge, Thulin Nell. Other than him, I don't know too many with 'real power'. I know a lot who like to use magic to play little games like they are putting on a show. Your point?"
Kairee: "Mages don't normally freely announce the extent of their powers, disciplines or resources they can tap. I am a Mage. I have power. I know many, many disciplines. I am intimate with the Nexus. That is more than I normally reveal and I do it for you."
At that point we took a break. Next month we'll hear her answers to questions regarding the "early days", the duels, the Nexus, and more about Gondar and her current life.
