Solange LeClercI had the pleasure of sitting down with one Solange LeClerc who introduced herself to me as the Political Attache to the D'Mourir Family who according to her have recently taken up residence in our fair city of RhyDin. According to her there are 3 brothers and 3 sisters with the youngest being Shannon at just 15.
They have immigrated here from Nouveau Bretagne where the family was quite active in politics. When I asked Solange if they were Royalty perhaps she had this to say: Solange - "Oh no, my dear. Nothing as esteemed as royalty. The D'Mourirs, or more appropriately the Clarendons
that's the branch of the family most closely associated with politics
have found their civic ties to stem from elections and such. And I will say that although sometimes the rank of office can be traced from father to son, the member of the family was always the top vote-getter."
I mentioned to Solange, who I figured is new here herself, that I didn't know of any politics that required voting in RhyDin and she was quick to explain to me that this branch of the Family isn't interested in politics but rather in philanthropic deeds and that they do have plans for doing some around RhyDin already.
When I mentioned knowing one of the brothers quite well Solange had this to say: Solange - "Actually, Alain's cousins are quite different from him. In fact, they tend to be quite different from each other. But isn't that always the way with families? We can say they all came from the same tree, but the leaves will fall where they may, no?"
|
I asked her how the other two brothers, Basil and Jerhyn, were doing and she told me that they are both finding their way about town and settling into jobs to help out the Family as well.
We then moved on to the topic that I feel it is clear she had come to tell me about. The D'Mourir Family is donating the money to have a playground built for the Orphans of RhyDin at the Orphanage in honor of Ellyna and Martyna coming of age as soon now they will both be turning 18.
They have taken a strong interest in the Orphanage as they too have lost their parents and have only their siblings here in town to rely on. According to Solange they are quite a close knit Family with each helping the other as they make their way through life here. You can look for more civic and philanthropic good deeds from this Family in the future according to her.
If you would like to help with funds for the new playground, donations can be left with Zonker, who runs the Orphanage, or at the First Goblin Bank of RhyDin.

The first of hopefully many Balls was held in the Great Hall on September 12th. Taneth Mercer hosted and arranged this wonderful evening. I decorated the Great Hall to appear like sunlight on water using my ice magic, creating everything from the gauzy wall coverings to the large ice dolphin that seemed to leap from the buffet table. O'Dell's Deli again catered this grand event – providing a sumptuous array of island-inspired selections, including prawns and a highly unusual fruit kabob.
The costumes worn by many of the guests showed true creativity. The Empress arrived as Water – paint in various shades of blue her only covering. I went as the Ice Queen – clad in blues and silvers, with a silver and sapphire torque and tiara to match. Selena Hale, proprietor of Sinful Pleasures, came as one of her chocolates. Other costumes included a clever red fox, a dwarf, a Goblin King, and one of the Scathachian sisters. The King of Westridge encouraged everyone to dance a Highland reel – which was quite a sight seeing him drag everyone along breathless and laughing. I stayed most of the evening, and a good time was apparently had by everyone! I applaud Taneth for graciously hosting, and I hope we are graced with more of her Dances very soon!

Congratulations to Kitty Onyxfire, the new mother of a baby boy. As one might expect, this unconventional new mother became one in a most unconventional way.
The child, which has since been named Mekylin meaning "sudden gift" in Moredhel, was gifted to the irrepressible Kitty by her friend Tara Longden. The child was inside one of the boxes Tara gifted Kitty with for her birthday. Meky, as Kitty has nicknamed him, seems to be only a few months old and is thought to be the natural child of an ... acquaintance of Tara's that is now deceased. Meky, who had sustained a few bruises has been healed and according to his new mother Kitty is "healthy and burbling like any baby would."

This is part two of an interview with the renown Kairee. Your Oracle reporter was sitting at a table in the Inn when a burst of gold dust appeared and Kairee was suddenly sitting upon the table, her long splendiferous legs crossed in front of me. It was certainly a surprise, but she has been doing that to this reporter for years. You'd think I'd be used to it by now.
TOReporter: "Do you realize that other than Amaltea, you are probably the person I've known for the longest time?"
Kairee: "Be careful what you say babes. Someone might hear you and think I'm old."
TOReporter: "Kai, you'll never get old. You just keep getting more beautiful as the years pass. Speaking of the years past, can we get back to the interview that we started? The Oracle readers have a great interest in the early years - the roots of what the RDI has grown to become. Is there anything you could tell us? Something that you would want the readers to know?"
Kairee: "Two things first babes
One, present? Two, Drink? I see neither and I know you aren't that neglectful."
At this point your reporter gave Kai a small gift and got her a glass of peach brandy.
TOReporter: "Okay, shall we get on with the interview?"
Kairee: "If you insist. When I arrived, there were three tenders and the Inn was cared for by Tamara. She was
motherly."
TOReporter: "Who were the three tenders? Do you remember their names?"
Kairee: "Tamara, Racoon
hmmm
I've forgotten the third. Maybe there were only two."
TOReporter: "I remember those two
just barely. So Tamara was the Inn caretaker and there were one or two tenders. What kind of clientele did the Inn get in those days. Were there as many fights as there are these days?"
Kairee: "It was a different time and place. It would seem very surreal to people now. This Nexus Point was barely a burble then. It was struggling to break forth, and since I had decided to stay, I filled my time by tending on Saturday nights"
TOReporter: "That's a very interesting statement! You've got me curious. So, it would seem surreal? Tell, me please, when you tended on Saturday nights, how would it seem surreal to our readers? Was it the lack of diversity of the patrons since the nexus hadn't fully developed?"
Kairee: "There were always many different types at the Inn, Babes. However, since the Nexus was just breaking through, there would be a bleed over of different dimensions. Sometimes you could not tell what was real"
TOReporter: "Okay, well let me ask this. Outside of you and me, who do you think were the more influential people in the early days, ones that really stand out in your mind?"
Kairee: "Don't ask me that, babes. I've been here for so long. Each age has had its share of influencers. I will invariably mention one name and forget another, and influence comes in many forms. Some of the biggest names had no impact while others, barely remembered, had more influence with their tiny acts."
TOReporter: "Good point, Kai. Okay, let's change the subject. What about the duels? I remember the old days when duels actually took place inside the Inn. Can you shed some light on the history of the duels?"
Kairee: "I love a swaggering swordsman, don't you?"
TOReporter: "Well, to be honest, I actually prefer a swaggerin' swordswoman, one like Siera Red."
Kairee: "She was one of the greatest, but before her time, the boys would get a bit rambunctious in the Inn."
TOReporter: "I remember people like FFyvWhit and Dark Axe, always fighting inside the Inn."
Kairee: "While I enjoyed the spectacle, they inadvertently chased off paying customers who wanted a drink in peace. So I sent them to the basement. In time I pulled a team together to create the Duels for RhyDin. Keep the archives. Promote the games and make book."
TOReporter: Listening and writing this down. "Oh! So that's how it all started!"
Kairee: "When we started up Duel of Swords as the official sport of RhyDin, we then invested in creating Duel of Fists and Duel of Magic. We built the Dueling Centers. It proved very profitable."
TOReporter: "I remember those early days of going down into the basement and watching the duels and doing my own dueling."
Kairee: "Gav! You asked me last time what misperception I wanted to correct. Well, there is one. There is a conspiracy theory out there that spitefully suggests that I fixed the duels to make Gondar the First Overlord. That is entirely false. The Duels have always been above corruption. It is an insult not only to me but to Gondar. He became the first Overlord through his skill alone."
TOReporter: "I believe that 100%, Kai. He was an honorable man and I know that he wouldn't take the title unless he won it fairly."
Kairee: "Yes. He prided himself on his abilities and would not be so craven as to cheat at the Duels."
TOReporter: "Anything else you can tell us about Gondar? He's quiet a legend."
Kairee: "What would you like to know?"
TOReporter: "Well, the first thing I think the readers would like to know is how you two got together."
Kairee: "It was a while after he started coming to the RDI before we even speak. He was striking. A strong presence
and he would watch me. He never competed with the others for my attention. He was always very self assured. We would talk in the inn and he would entertain me with his wit and biting commentary on others. He developed the habit of being there when my shift ended and we would go for walks as just as friends."
Kairee: "One night at the Inn had been a bad night
and I was not in the best of moods when we went for our walk. We talked as we strolled and his just took my hand and held it and never let it go. I bet you never thought Gondar has such a sweet and romantic side."
|
TOReporter: "Well, now that you mention it, I guess the answer would be 'no'."
Kairee: "He was more than you or anyone else will ever know."
TOReporter: "Anything else you can tell us about him, or about your time together?"
Kairee: "Gondar was a man who set his own rules in life and didn't live by the conventions of others. Some saw this in a negative light but he was true to himself and i would not have him any other way. As for our time together, we had fun. We lived our lives as we chose to live them. I found no fault in him nor he in me. I am still amazed to this day to have found someone so well suited to me."
TOReporter: "Some people go a lifetime without that. It's why I'm so thankful to have found Des. Well, let's go on. What about your current life? Where do you live? What are you up to these days?"
Kairee: "I have a number of places, Babes; here on RhyDin and on other worlds. Soon, I will have the Kingdom of Appleburg as my own."
TOReporter: "Appleburg? Where is that, Kai?"
Kairee: "Another world; easy to get to from here. Don't know too much about it yet. It's a gift. I'm taking a short trip to claim it. I'll know more then."
TOReporter: "Oh? A gift? Who has given you this kingdom, if I may ask?"
Kairee: "The King of Appleburg. duh. King Ia'an. His heirs are dead and well, he remembers me fondly and thought his kingdom the best gift he could give me."
TOReporter: "That's quite an inheritance. He must have remembered you very fondly. What did you do for him to incur that fondness?"
Kairee: "What are you suggesting?"
TOReporter: "Oh, nothing inappropriate. It's just a natural question people would ask and I don't want rumors to start."
Kairee: "Babes, he loitered about the Inn for a while how could I *not* make an impression on him?"
TOReporter: "Ahh
good point. Now, there's one more thing I want to be clear on. If you don't mind me asking, how did Gondar die? I want to hear the truth and dispel any rumors."
Kairee: "People like Gondar and I have enemies. We tend to attract them. Do you remember the number ticket dispenser I had installed at the Inn? Every time a new enemy reared its ugly head, I told them to take a number. That usually pissed them off even more. In any case, Gondar's past caught up with him. The demons actually managed to catch and imprisoned him until I rescued him. They only redoubled their efforts after that and upped the stakes. When he could've saved himself, he chose to save me. He sacrificed himself so I could escape. That's the heart of it. Is that what you wanted to know?"
TOReporter: "He gave his life for you. How many years ago did this happen?"
Kairee: "About a year before I withdrew. To deny them his soul, Gondar didn't just die, he was unmade
destroyed."
TOReporter: "I'm sorry, Kai. It was a great loss to all of us in RhyDin."
Kairee: "Gavilean, you are almost as bad as Tasslehofl. You have deified him. Gondar would be highly amused at the way some have held his memory."
TOReporter: "He was the first Overlord. That title deserves respect, and makes his death a loss for all RhyDin. Were you determined to avenge him, and make those responsible pay?"
Kairee: "I have and continue to do so. Those that came for him have also come for me. Such impertinence cannot stand."
TOReporter: "And so the battles still continue? And does Braxeus assist you in this retribution?"
Kairee: "I choose my own battles for my own reasons. Braxeus does the same. I won't presume to voice his motivations. However, it should be obvious that he has no vested interest in avenging Gondar. I seriously doubt it even enters the equation."
TOReporter: "So he doesn't assist you in your battles. Okay, fair enough. Any last thing you wish to express to our readers?"
Kairee: "Don't put words in my mouth. You asked if Braxeus assists me in my retribution."
TOReporter: "And you said no."
Kairee: "I neither confirmed nor denied."
TOReporter: "You said you choose your own battles and Braxeus does the same; and that he has no interest in avenging Gondar. That seems pretty clear."
Kairee: "If you are asking if Braxeus and I find common cause and have fought besides each other, yes we have. Why would we not? But if you are asking me if he does it to avenge Gondar, that's different. His reasons for fighting beside me have nothing to do with Gondar. Besides, it's not as if I live my life doing nothing but plotting my revenge. Those that were involved in Gondar's death have also acted directly against me since that time. That alone is enough reason for me to dispatch them without it having to be about retribution as my sole motivator."
TOReporter: "Okay, I think that clarifies that response sufficiently. Okay, last question, Kairee. It is no secret that you have disappeared from RhyDin for some time, as had I. Can you tell our readers why you left, and were you really in seclusion, or just in another realm?"
Kairee: "It's a bit complicated, Babes. I withdrew into The Nexus. So, technically, I never left but that I also 'lived' everywhere/ every time else. I watched over RhyDin, at times more active than others. I provided guidance when necessary. Panther and I were connected and he always knew how to touch me when he needed. My focus was elsewhere but I was never completely gone."
TOReporter: "So you are saying that life here in RhyDin is something that you've never forsaken and that it has always maintained a special place in your heart."
Kairee: She laughed. "Spoken like the true romantic that you are. You can say that, Gav-babes but it's not just next to my heart; I am entwined with The Nexus and RhyDin, of all the Nexus Points is the one I have chosen to be most active in."
TOReporter: "I think you for this interview, Kai. Our readers enjoyed Part 1 and I'm sure they'll be very interested in this also."
