Sky Fortresses Loom Over City

By POE KINCADE

On the twenty-third of September, RhyDin City, still recovering in the wake of the Zombie Outbreak, became host to a pair of fortresses in the sky. These sky fortresses loomed over the city, almost like a pair of mountains that had been turned upside down.

Sources state that these Fortresses came as part of the disaster relief efforts. At both Dockside and the West End, these fortresses were said to provide some welcome shade for those focused on clean-up and rebuilding efforts, as well as the mass removal of some potentially dangerous refuse from said areas.

In addition to waste management, dozens of soldiers, medics, and counselors came from Athas to assist RhyDin city in its hour of need. This seemingly benevolent act was the doing of His Majesty Kalis-Nar, the God-King of Athas. His Majesty could not be reached for comment, though the Embassy of the Obsidian Halls confirmed that Kalis-Nar was indeed responsible for the following statement, found posted at the RhyDin Bulletin Board:

I Kalis-Nar, God-King of Athas and Scourge of Chaos, have come to help those you stand for order in their fight against Chaos, in the form of the one who calls himself Bob. If you are one who believes in order and a return of balance then stand with us, not just I, but those of your fellow citizens who also believe in balance.

In Order and in Unity there shall be Balance and Peace!

"It's wonderful," said Mandelika Lorte, of Lower Lyndyn, who came to the West End to help in the relief efforts. "So many

of us don't have anything but our hands and our time to give. To see someone with more doing more is a breath of fresh air."

While indeed, many are grateful to our foreign allies for their assistance in the relief efforts, some citizens express concern over the close involvement of foreign powers in this crucial rebuilding period. "It isn't that I'm ungrateful," said Griff Zorin, of RhyDin City. "It's just that I don't believe there is any such thing as a free lunch." Zorin has been working at Dockside on freelance security since the outbreak. One of his colleagues, Hilli Wilkins, also of RhyDin City, agreed. "We've always pulled ourselves up by the bootstraps here. This is RhyDin. Ain't a soul here that does something for nothing."

On the eleventh of October, the Sky Fortresses left the city, heading South to the disappointment of some and the relief of others. No matter how a person feels about it, either way it marks another step in the slow return to everyday life at Dockside and the West End.

Leader of E.R.E.O.C Arrested!

By NANCY NOZEE

Adan Ith'Arian, leader of The Elven Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission, was arrested on October 25th on suspicion of plans to launch an attack not only on the headquarters of the Dwarven Equal Rights Committee, but the entire city block it resides on, which is known for it's dwarven only populace! Adan denies any plans of the sort and claims that the evidence found against him was planted there by D.E.R.C's leader, Bobgard Terwilligen. Early October 27th, Adan was released from jail when his bail of 10,000 Silvers was posted.

Terwilligen denies having any involvement in Adan's arrest, and refused to comment any further than that.

Both organizations have been becoming more active lately, and more hostile towards one another. Some businesses are still suffering from the prejudices of one race to another, and the political fighting between the two groups is drawing the attentions of other organizations and their leaders.

Ellsbeth Clementine, leader of Fae Are Best (F.A.B) had the following to say: "I think both Adan and Terwilligen are being ridiculous. Rather than looking to build the reputation of their respective races, they work to tear down the reputation of other races. All in all, it's very detrimental to their cause and in the end makes the elven and dwarven races look even worse." Ellsbeth is working hard to keep members of her group out of the crossfire, and rebuild reputations of businesses that have been harmed from the fighting.

Friend Or Foe?

By JEFF PIKE

The Marketplace has taken on a faintly exotic feel over the past few days. Merchants, many of whom dealt previously in exclusively local goods, have begun selling imports. Many others have added to their inventories, adding new teas, spices, textiles and other items.

Most merchants in the Marketplace have all spoken of the same region, a place called Mount Yasuo, which they say is quite a distance north of the city. Apparently, according to the locals who have dealt with people recently arrived in the city, the region had only just begun to trade with RhyDin proper.

Currently, responses are mixed. One man who was shopping in the market said, "Are you kidding? Look at this stuff, it's gorgeous! This can only be good for the city, if you ask me; new trade relations, new stuff, new exports."

Others did not share the same sentiment.

"No chance. I haven't heard a damn thing about them buyin' our goods," one shop owner said. "They're just dumpin' their stuff here and not takin' anything back. And furthermore, I haven't heard of this place before and I've lived in this realm my whole life! I say we deal with this 'Mount Yasuo' with due caution. They could end up being the enemy. And we already have enough of those."

So far, no emissaries of this hitherto unheard of region have presented

themselves to the RhyDin city government, but likewise, no hostilities have been declared.

The one common sentiment shared by those in the Marketplace today was this:

Time will tell.

Auction Time!

By ELLY~

As October draws to a close and it becomes November that serves as a reminder for one thing. It's Auction time! That's right, the end of the Auctions finally draws to a close. So all of you that's been saving, saving, saving your money it's time to bid now! November 3rd is the final day to do so, so you better hurry up!

On the fifth of November I'll be announcing the results of the auction live in the popular glen south of the city. Since that's also the holiday of Guy Fawkes there will be a small celebration with a bonfire, fireworks, and free food and drinks set out! Mostly as a thank you from me to the people who were kind enough to participate in this auction. So, so much money was raised for Governess Kitty Helston's clinic and playground projects and that's sure to do a lot of people good!

So don't forget, and everyone is invited! Those participating in the auctions are really encouraged to show up! So come, eat, drink, and set things on fire!

From The Governor's Desk

By KITTY O HELSTON
November 2007

Yes folks, another month has come and gone. The weather is getting colder, and the days are getting shorter.

I'm happy to announce the RhyDin Clinic is almost finished in it's building. However, I may later donate to the new Governor so they can build a Mental Health wing. It has come to my attention that this town needs it.

On November 17th I will be throwing a Holiday Charity Ball. The office is presently taking applications for a caterer, live entertainment, and a couple drink slingers. All proceeds will be going to Icer and Arthur's orphanage.

Have fun, and I hope to see you all at the Ball!

G's P.O.V.

By G'NORT DRAGOON-TALANADOR

I, Ishmael, write the end. And as I write thusly, it is of that which doth truly Grindeth mine Gears… eth.

And so, with the closing of October and All Hallows Eve past us, we find ourselves barreling out of control down the lane of Holiday season. Fine Eats day comes to us soon, near to the end of this new month, and the next month gives us Great Yuletide Day, a.k.a. Phat Lewtz day, which is quickly followed by the End of Year day.

What does this mean to us all, honestly? To some, it means a day of thanks, and a day of appreciation, and a day of being glad to have successfully made it through another year. To some, it means none of the above. To some, it means some or one of the combination of the three. To me, I think of it as not precisely the most important days of the year.

Fine Eats day is a day where we are supposed to be thankful for the things in life. To show how we appreciate how lucky we are to have the fine things in life we have and are not starving or poor like some tyrants underlings down in Blackmoor. To give thanks to our elders, our children, our loved ones for being there for us in times of need, and for us being there for them.

My issue is "Why can we not show our thanks any other day of the year? Why must it be designated that a single day is the day we pig ourselves out in pure gluttony and use the excuse of appreciation to justify it?" Truth is, we can. We can give our thanks every day of the year, it's just that we don't.

Great Yuletide is similar. What exactly is the meaning of this day, can anyone tell us? Do we have to give gifts to people on this day, or can we just do it any other day of the year? And who came up with the idea that Socks are such a wonderful gift? Not even dress socks or fancy socks or colorful socks, no. Just the plain, white cotton ones. If you want to give me a gift, make it a good one, it'll make me think you do care rather than you just hurried up at the last second to pick something up… like… I don't know… Suede-It. That little kit that you use to add designs to suede clothing? Tell me something… have you even seen anyone wearing anything in Suede this century? No! God, go with the socks instead.

End of Year day. Well sure, you can't celebrate the end of the year on any other day, but why all the drinking and partying? Can you not drink or party any other day of the year? Could the End of Year be better spent reflecting over the events of the past 365 days that have just left us forever, friends, loved ones who've died or moved away? Who deemed it a party day and why?

I would bet to Scotsmen were sitting in a pub one day, and Scotsman Brennus was lamenting to Scotsman Seamus how upset he was about his wife leaving him

for his dog, and took the family wagon and moved to Ireland, that the nobles called in the debt on his house, thus leaving him homeless, and how his cat was run over by his best friends wheelbarrow when the friend stole all the money hidden in the hay bale in the stable where his horses suddenly died of freak glue problems. As he lamented, Seamus said something like "Oy, 'ave a dlink, yeh bloody yapper! It'll meek yeh fargetcher prollems, lad!" And Brennus was all "ok." Thus starting the tradition of drinking to forget the problems of the past year. It just escalated a bunch of people getting together at the end of the year and drinking themselves beyond all recognition.

Well hell, you can drink yourselves beyond all recognition any other day of the year, in fact I've seen many that do. "But G, End of Year is a reason to throw a party!" Yeah and you can do that any day of the year without a reason. Nothing special about this one, to me.

I could go on about February and the evil "Valentines Day" and how it is designed to make single people feel utterly miserable and unloved, but I'll save that for my February Grinding of Gears.

Well, for those of you who enjoy celebrating these days, I do not hold you in contempt. We all have our own beliefs and these three holidays do, indeed, seem to make people feel good. I can't hold that against you at all. I don't mind them so much, either. I don't go out of my way to celebrate them, mind you, but I don't mind it when others invite me to celebrate. Even if they're Scottish.

I have a pair of Holidays that I enjoy. I don't remember what they are, but after seeing the All Hallows Eve day costume that our dear, sweet, and sexy to die for Governor was wearing, and that I got to assist her in removing, Not to mention the darling number Alysia, Erin, Koy and others had on, and that Myself and Rena had the best costume ever (we were psychopathic brother and sister murders who hadn't yet killed anyone but were in the really early planning stages of thinking about maybe doing so at some time in the future that was probably a bit farther off than it seemed if we were serious), I'm beginning to think that Halloween isn't so bad a holiday to start celebrating.

What say you?

Next month! Watch, that is to say, Read what I have to say about… something! We'll see!
