After the second longest reign in the Duel of Swords history Topaz leaves the Dragon's Gate district in the keeping of Aya. I wasn't there to see this Challenge so I'm bringing it straight from the corkboard to you as posted by Rissa who was the official for this match.
On Sunday night, June 17th as the bell tower rang 9 times, Aya Hayashibara, the runner-up in the Spring Warlord Tournament brought forth her challenge against the Baroness of Dragon's Gate, Topaz Datrazanov. Topaz dueled under the the colors of black and silver on a shy blue background and her second was her husband, Lucien. Aya dueled colorless and secondless. The baroness used the best of three format.
|
Duel 1 started off slow, as the two duelers were getting a feel for each other. Blood was shed in the next roud as they traded cuts then Topaz pulled ahead to keep the lead for the next four rounds. AYa then took the lead in round 7, blocking Topaz's cut then won the first duel, moving around the parry from Topaz, 5-4.
Duel 2 started off with Topaz swinging low, getting around the brace of Aya. They traded cuts then Aya tied the score, swinging low at Topaz's shins. That was all Aya scored, as they rested the next round then Topaz scored twice then blocked Aya's cut to take the second duel 5-2.
Duel 3 started off fast and furious with cuts. Topaz then took the lead in round 2 but Aya tied it in round four. She took the lead in the next round and never relented, trading cuts with Topaz in round 6 then reversing the cuts to take the final duel, 5-4.

This one was overseen by Fearless Wyh herself folks and here is what she had to say about it!
This match was held on June 19th, late in the evening. A fair crowd was on hand to witness Bran's challenge to Harris for the honor to hold the Blue Opal, IceDancer.
Bran won the first round, securing an early lead, and never letting it go. Harris took the second with a perfect 5-0 shutout. The third saw ties, and a Nexus swirl, but in the end, Harris emerged victorious, and retains the honor of holding IceDancer!

Lem was kind enough to have called this one and I'm bringing it to you folks like he reported it.
Hear Ye! Hear Ye! I, the occasionally honorable Lem DeAngelo, did bear witness to Vanion Shadowcast's challenge for Shadoweaver held by Jaycy Ashleana. The duelists met in the Outback on the eve of 06/20/07. Several duelists were in attendance to watch the challenge while Kheldar continued her shift. Jaycy chose The Pit as the ring of choice for their first match and Kheldar was kind enough to close the gate and seal them in. The match stayed close during the entire duel, but Vanion secured the lead early and held on to it to win 5-3 in 11 rounds.
For the 2nd match, Vanion requested a standard ring, and so the duelists made their way to the Ring of Shadows. Jaycy showed us all why she was the holder of Shadoweaver as she took a commanding 4-0 lead after 5 rounds. Vanion only managed to scored 1 point before Jaycy swept him down in round 9 to make it 1 match a piece.
For the final, decisive round Jaycy chose to remain in the Ring of Shadows. She had done well in the ring during the 2nd match, but it was still anyone's opal as we started the third match.
Round 1: Vanion's out for vengeance as he jabs through Jaycy's sweep attempt! (1-0 Vanion)
Round 2: Jaycy gets up again but is chopped back down to the ground. (2-0 Vanion, FA Leap vs. Chop)
|
Round 3: Jaycy lunges for the uppercut, but Vanion jabs in for the point! (3-0 Vanion)
Round 4: Both duelists get fancy, but neither get points. (Still 3-0 Vanion, Jaycy FA Dodge and Vanion FA Arm Block)
Round 5: Vanion continues his onslaught with another jab, but Jaycy flips him down for the point! (3-1 Vanion)
Round 6: Jaycy shows off some legwork as she fancily dodges, but she can't avoid Vanion's sweep! (4-1 Vanion)
Round 7: Jaycy prepares to fancily armblock Vanion's Jab, but he fein't at the last moment securing the point and win! (5-1 Vanion)
And so, Vanion Shadowcast is the new, rightful holder of the opal Shadoweaver with a victory of 2 matches to 1!

Anjolie did indeed defeat the most fiersome jigging creature once it had been set loose to terrorize her in an attempt to snatch her precious Pathfinder from her! It was a spectical and quite a sight to see as Anjolie and the creature battled it out in the ring for the right to hold this Opal.
Never let it be said that the creature is not an ankle biter for I, Des, did see this myself with my very own eyes and the horror of it was almost too much to bear. But Anjolie was not deterred by this tactic nor was she swayed even when it bounced, yes bounced! upon her right there in front of God and everybody!!!
Jiggly however was just as determined and the creature wasn't about to give up and so it was that THREE duels occured between these fighters to decide the ultimate fate of the Opal. And not just easy duels either. These here were long hard fought ones I'm here to tell ya. Both brought their best which is as it should be in a Challenge Match!

This is for the extremely simple minded or those who probably really don't care (in other words: I am not giving a detailed history or explanation regarding the League here, so don't be offended if you don't learn anything new). IFL stands for Iron Fists League, which is an unarmed team dueling league. What does that mean? It means that groups of fist fighters form together under teams and duke it out!
Each team is comprised of five to eight fighters (which includes a captain) but only four of those fighters actually fight each week. They're supposed to be ranked by their fighting ability on a line up card as the four different matches of the week are weighted differently (five point, four point, three point, and two point matches) and you would naturally want your best fighter fighting the heaviest weighted match so he or she could get you the most points. However, sometimes it seems like these captains (who are often the ones in charge of choosing the line ups) are just picking names out of the proverbial hat for their line-ups. The scoring for matches is pretty much like it is in the Outback with a few minor changes.
The IFL season is ten weeks long plus the championship matches and coincidentally, there are ten teams this season: Badside Brawlers; Champions of Mythos; Get Up, Mercury; Great of

Strength; Kung Fu Theater; Roshambo; Shots of Decadence; Team Fist; Team SHE; and Wrecking Crew.
Wednesday, June 27th, saw the start of Week Five of the league and by next week, IFL will be at its mid-point. It's pretty fair to say that the current team standings (which, according to the IFL score sheets, is based on "on team wins. In the result of a tie, IFL officials will then look at total bouts won, then the head-to-head match") give a clear depiction of which teams are on their game this season and which are lagging behind going into the second half of the season. As of the writing of this article, the team standings are:
1. Badside Brawlers
2. Roshambo
3. Champions of Mythos
4. Kung Fu Theater
5. Team Fist
6. Great of Strength
7. Wrecking Crew
8. Shots of Decadence
9. Team SHE
10. Get Up, Mercury
If you haven't been following IFL yet, it's not too late! Come on down to the Iron Fists Garden along the river shoreline and watch some of RhyDin's best hand-to-hand fighters duke it out! Each week promises its own excitement, and if you don't know who to cheer for, cheer for me - I'm on Roshambo!
