Duel Masters Tournament Begins!

By TERA STARFARE
July 31, 2007

According to the corkboard the first ever Duel Master Tournament participants are now in place and the tournament is ready to begin. Random is sponsoring this tournament that involves dueling in all three of the sports to see who is the best overall Duelist. Places were granted to those that according to the histories had the best win over loss record in all three spots and they are in no certain order: Xerxes Maureen, Harris D'Artainian, Vanion Shadowcast, Cassius Gaius Maximus, Cory Havoick, and the next highest was Artemus Kurgen. The top four from the Tour de RhyDin also were given entry and they are in no certain order: Matthew Simon, Kheldar Drasinia, Rena Cronin and Bran Bale.

This left six other spots open that were filled via qualifier tournaments in each sport. There were two double-elimination tournaments held for each sport. Anyone and everyone that was not invited to participate was allowed to enter these qualifying tournaments and the turnout for at least the one for fists I can tell you was very good as I was there for the first night of it and officiated one of the matches myself.

The rules are fairly simple as everyone gets four expert moves to use during their duels to keep the playing field level which is a trademark of the way Random's events tend to work from what I have seen. In the DoF Qualifier there was Random, Felix, Corlanthis, Jewell, Darren, and Gabe that fought. The Winner's

Bracket ended up being Random himself that Qualified and the Loser's Bracket ended up being Felix that Qualifed!

Then it was on to Twilight Isle to test out the magic skills and those that participated there were Corlanthis, Vinny, Liena, Gabe, Tass, and Wyheree. From these matches it was Tass from the Winner's Bracket and Liena from the Loser's that move on. The next stop was The Arena to test the skills with blades and here Gabe, Vinny, Rekai, and Shadow of Men stepped into the rings for a little BLOOD GUTS and GLORY! When it was over Vinny emerged from the Winner's Bracket and Shadow of Man from the Loser's to Qualify for the Duel Masters Tournament proper.

The matchups have already been posted for the first round of this tournament and for those of you that enjoy a little betting then Random also has something special just for you in the form of his Bet Master competition that is attached to this tournament. What is that you may be asking yourself well feel free to stop on by the corkboard and check it out folks!

Here are the first round matchups folks. All duels will be taking place in The Annex for this grand and glorious tournament at days and times arranged by the Duelists themselves so check often to see when these great Duelers are going to be fighting! Cass vs. Lieana, Harris vs. Wyh, Khelhar vs. G, Matt vs. Vinny, Rena vs. Bran, Vanion vs. Tass, and Art vs. Random. The Xerzes vs. Felix has already been fought with Felix advancing to the next round folks.

DoF 50th Diamond Quest

By TERA STARFARE
July 23, 2007

Nine worthy Duelists arrived the evening of July 23rd in The Outback all hopeful of joining the ranks of their predecessors in the record books but not to hold just any record. Tonight was a very special record they were seeking for this was the night of the Duel of Fists 50th Diamond Quest!!!

People came from all around to watch and cheer, not just to participate, as I was there and saw and heard them my very own self. The lovely and charming Lady Wyheree Ravenlock-Black and I, Lady Tera Starfare officiated the duels for the fighters. And let me tell you there were some amazing duels this evening.

Those dueling were in order of seeding: Matt, Jaycy, Tarl, Kheldar, Xerzes, Max, Vinny, Art, and Cass. In the first round of dueling Matt got the bye and our first of SIX, yes you read that correctly, six Sudden Death matches occurred. Xerzes and Max went to Sudden Death before Max came out the winner and Kheldar and Vinny went to Sudden Death before Kheldar brought the match home the winner. Artemus and Jaycy also won their matches establishing our first round winner and loser brackets.

The second round of dueling saw two more Sudden Death matches with Matt going to Sudden Death with Artemus and finally winning it and Tarl and Cass ending up going to 14 rounds in a grueling duel that saw Sudden death before Tarl brought it home for the win. Vinny defeated Xerzes and Kheldar defeated Max.

In the third round Tarl came up with the one and only shutout of this DQ and it was against Max. Matt come up with a win

against the only female to enter the 50th Diamond Quest, Jaycy. And in yet another match that went to Sudden Death Art swept the fancy dodging Vinny for the win.

Round four saw Jaycy facing Art and she took the win while Matt and Kheldar squared off and Kheldar just kept right on rolling over opponents. The next round was the fifth round and Kheldar was the only remaining undefeated duelist so he got to sit out for certain. Jaycy had won her last duel and Matt lost so it was Matt against Tarl since I figured this was all about fighting fighting should determine who fought. Tarl was valiant but in the end Matt came out the winner to face Jaycy in round six.

These two didn't disappoint anyone either even though by now it was getting quite late and both had faced several opponents already. They took this match to Sudden Death in 8 rounds then went defensive for a round before Matt ended up with the win to face the undefeated as of yet Kheldar.

With the Witching hour of Midnight a good two hours behind us by now Matt and Kheldar faced off in the ring and opened by exchanging jabs! They would go on to further test each other in a battle not only of brawn but of wits as both tried to fake each other out as well as beating on each other folks but in the end only one can win in the rings and it was to be Kheldar with back-to-back Diamonds in his pocket that would lay claim to the honor of the title of 50th Diamond of the Duel of Fists!!!

Not to take away from this awesome accomplishment but it must be noted that as second prize in this Quest the Opal Pathfinder is awarded to Matt and he did state that he wanted to think about it a bit before deciding if he was going to accept this prize.

Overlord Challenge Cletus vs. Maria

By TERA STARFARE
July 20, 2007

Overlord Cletus did indeed get Challenged by Maria after some debating and thinking about it on her part from what I could tell over a couple of weeks time. Now I'm not completely up with all the politics in the Arena but it wasn't that long ago that it sure did look like the Wrecking Crew had plans in place to take over all the Baron spots and so I must admit I wasn't too terrible surprised when I saw that Maria had gone ahead with issuing Challenge for the top spot in Swords.

I am anxious to see what is going to happen next as from what I read during this Karen Wilder also had interest in ousting Cletus. But then again the position as Overlord is one that many duelers covet for one reason or another and not always for political reasons. This is what Imp had to say about Maria and Cletus' match.

Tha P'Imp wuzz thurr!!!! The hottie Baroness Maria challenged Cletus for the Overlord title. He said "otay."

Cletus' second was Magnus. His lady of honor was the hottie Arane. He dueled under the flag of Polaris.

Maria's Second was Bode Bojangles. Her Imp of honor was me!!!! She dueled under the colors (blue and black) of the Crew.

The Overlord went for the best of three deal.

The first duel was easy for Maria but rough on the Overlord. She cleaned his clock 5-2 in 8 rounds!

The second duel looked like she was gonna own him too, the score was 3-1 by round 5. But the Overlord opened a can of whoop-ass, scored four consecutive points and took the match 5-3 in 10 rounds!

Now comes the biggie. The one duel that will decide who will run home with the title. By round five the score was 2 all. Round six was a pointless round, well not pointless, just no score. Then on the the next three rounds Cletus scored three consecutive points, winning the duel 5-2 in 9 rounds and keeping the title!

Archmage Tournament and Challenge!

By TERA STARFARE
July 2, 2007 and July 4, 2007

This cycle it was Gnimish that oversaw the tournament to see who would get the honor of facing the current Archmage Will for the pleasure of taking care of the Celestial Tower with it’s breathtaking view of the Isle and all the responsibility that goes along with it.

And only two days later on July 4, 2007 the winner of the tournament faced off against Will to see who would hold the position of Archmage as Gnimish oversaw the Challenge.

This is how the tournament and following Challenge went according to him.

So monday night a bunch of folks got together to see who'd get to spend the night with Archmage Will!

Me, I don't know if that's really the best prize I could think of, but a bunch of people wanted it!

Five mages started the night off: Topaz, Vinny, Harris, Illusia and Tass.

We lost Tass to some strange thing part way through round one, Topaz defeated Harris and Illusia got the bye for that round.

Round two saw Harris against Vinny and Topaz against Illusia. Harris pulled out a narrow win, but Illusia was far more dominant in her defeat of the fairy.

In Round three the ladies really gave the guys a beating as Illusia sent Harris home and Topaz sent Vinny packing.

In the fourth and final round Illusia seemed to be running away with the match, almost sealing the victory before the fairy battled back to within half a point. Sadly for her, Illusia took the win in the fourteenth round with an exchange of blows.

So Tuesday night we all got together to be seeing just how mean Archmeanie Will could really be, and let me tell you he was definitely every bit as mean as I had heard. Examples? Well, I can't really recall any specific examples, it was just a general feeling of meanieosity. Yeah. That's it. Meanieosity. It's a word, look it up you beanpoles!

Anyway, in their first match the Archmeanie took the lead in the first round. As part of his plot to make the match last fifty rounds, he and Illusia traded defenses for a bit, even giving her a small lead before he turned around and surprised us all by ending it in just twelve rounds! Twelve! Very much non-Archmeanieish. Yes, that's a word too!!

The second duel began with the same two spells as the first, though in reverse as Illusia claimed first blood, but that was pretty much the only thing that really went right for her as Will again acted very non-Archmeanieish and ended this one in just ten rounds!

So congratulations to Will Wulfson for getting to stay up in the citadel for a while longer, and to Illusia for being brave enough to get in a ring with that guy even with the threat of a fifty round duel hanging over her head.
