Panther's Claw Tournament!

By TERA STARFARE
September 24, 2007

It was a lovely evening for knock-down, drag-outs folks when six hopefuls did meet in The Outback to vie for the Panther's Claw. I had the privilege of getting to officiate for this tournament and I would be Tera Starfare of Westridge. The six hopefuls in order of seeding, which was random, were: G, Soerl, Rena, Erin, Troy, and Teagan.

First round match ups were: G vs. Teagan, Soerl vs. Troy, and Rena vs. Erin. To start off the tournament I put them all in Rask generic rings, with my own usual names, and let them have at each other. The tournament format ended up being double elimination due to participation. The first ones to score were G, Troy, and Rena in the first rounds of the first round duels. G and Teagan finished up first in 7 with G coming out the winner 5-1. Rena and Erin ended next in 7 with Rena taking the duel 5-2. Soerl and Troy were in a marathon at rd 7 with a score of 3-2 in Soerl's favor. They would keep going with no score in 8 and Troy tying it up in 9 at 3-All. Soerl took the lead back in 11 then Troy tied it up again for SUDDEN DEATH in 12! Round 13 saw them exchanging jabs to take them to 5-All and another SUDDEN DEATH round. 14 they mirrored jumpkicks for no score to either then in round 15 Soerl brought out a chop for the win at 6-5.

The second round matchups were: Soerl vs. Rena on the icy RINK. Troy vs. Teagan on the huge plant FERN. G vs. Erin way up high on STYX. RINK didn't have an opening hit, FERN was Troy and STYX was Erin this go around. Although they had no opening hit RINK still finished up first with Rena taking the win in 7 with a score of 5-1 against Soerl leaving her undefeated after 2 rounds and him with 1 loss so far. In FERN at round 7 Troy came up with the win which meant we said good night to Teagan at a score of 5-1 and we were down to 5 contenders. Up in STYX by round 6 we were at SUDDEN DEATH between G and Erin. 7 had them comparing sweeps for points to each and another SUDDEN DEATH round! In 8 Erin jabbed her way to a win with a score of 6-5 giving G his first loss.

Round three matchups I put them back in Rask generic rings and had Rena with a bye while G faced off against Troy and Soerl squared off against Erin. Troy got a

full first point and Soerl got an advantage to begin this round of dueling folks. While G and Troy were duking it out Soerl took charge of he and Erin's duel and never once looked back. I swear he was on fire in this go around. He took the win in the only shutout of this tournament 5-0 in 7 rounds which meant we said good night to Erin and Soerl advanced. G and Troy fought and fought and by 10 round they too were in SUDDEN DEATH! Round 11 neither could score and round 12 they hauled off and slugged each other right properly with jabs no less. Then in 13 they missed each other with jumpkicks so it wasn't until G landed a chop in 14 that this one ended 6-5 with G advancing and us saying good night to Troy.

In the fourth round it was G that had the bye and Rena along with Soerl was up on the FERN fighting. Soerl got in first then they hit each other Rena turned around and got one in and we were tied at 2-All. It was Soerl's turn next as a fight broke out in the crowd!! Now as Rena blocked and then converted for a full point a couple of folks in the crowd decided to get naked! The other fights in the crowd were still going on as Rena threw a jab then followed up with a chop for the win at 5-3 in 10 rounds leaving only her and G left in the tournament and Soerl with Third place!

So G and so far undefeated Rena faced off in a Rask generic ring that I did name while the crowd was still way out of control!!! It was at this point I got a little distracted as the thief that had robbed me the night before strolled in pretty as you please! But G and Rena were plenty focused as they opened the duel with chops and both got points. G then hopped out to a quick 3-1 lead in the first 3 rounds but in round 4 Rena jabbed him to make it 3-2. She then again turned around and followed up with a chop to tie it up and went on flip G to pull ahead in round 6 at 4-2. Round 7 saw Rena remain undefeated and taking home first place when she swept G's fancy duck for the 5-3 win which left G as our Second place in the tournament folks!

Everyone did a grand job dueling and I do believe that them that was fighting in the crowd did a grand job in their fights too from what I could see! I'm pretty sure that bills are getting sent to them that deserve to pay for broken stuff and those that took their clothing off are being fined appropriately.

Archmage Tournament

By TERA STARFARE
September 3, 2007

The lovely Topaz herself oversaw this one and had this to say on the corkboard regarding this glorious event folks!

Last evening three mages met on Twilight Isle to duel for the right to challenge the Archmage, William Wulfson. The tournament was dueled in the round robin format.

The tournament started off with quite a bit of excitement. The first two mages in the ring were Lem DeAngelo and Vincent Smith. The casting was fast and furious. It took Lem only 5 rounds to grab 5 points, leaving Vinny without so much as the tiniest advantage. But, as we might expect from great and experienced mages, Vinny did not allow that result to shake his confidence.

After the first round of duels we had a three way tie and a second round of duels had to be fought. Of the second round only two duels were fought. Vinny rallied and took two more wins in quick succession, leaving no chance for either of the other contenders to win the tournament in the third duel.

Congratulations, Vinny.

Thank you to everyone for a great tournament with lots of cheering and excitement for everyone who got to be there to witness the event or participate in it.

Archmage Challenged! Will vs. Vinny

By TERA STARFARE
September 4, 2007

The very next night after the Archmage Tournament, which is how it is decided who gets the chance to face the current Archmage on Twilight Isle in the Duel of Magic, the winner of the tournament for this cycle did meet the Archmage in a best of three duel format from what I read on the corkboard. If you haven’t yet stepped through the portal, that is right outside the Red Dragon that leads to Twilight Isle, and you enjoy the other two sports you may want to check out Magic sometime. They have some awesome duelists over there too as evidenced by what Topaz had to say about this Challenge.

On the evening of the 4th of September the winner of the tournament, Vincent Smith, and the reigning Archmage, William Wulfson, met in the ring of challenge. As always the format of the challenge was best of three duels.

Will to the win in a very close first duel 5-4 in 12 rounds. The second duel was less of a nail biter, ending 5.5-2.5 after only 9 rounds in Vinny's favor. Everyone there was appreciative of the small break for their nerves. The third duel stretched for 13

rounds and remained close throughout. The mages managed to stretch out "Sudden death" for 3 rounds before Will took the win with a final score of 5.5-4.5.

Congratulations to Will Wulfson for a fine defense.

Part Three of Triple Challege by Bran
Old Market Barony G vs Bran

By TERA STARFARE
September 2, 2007

Rena oversaw this Challenge that was the third and final Bran had set for himself in the three sports. This is how it went according to her.

Sunday night September 2, 2007 a crowd gathered to witness Bran Bale's last part of his triple challenge against the baron of Old Market, Gnort Talanador.

The baron dueled under the colors of the House Dragoon-Talanador banners, dark blue and shadowed grey. His lady of honor was his wife, Kaja Adair Talanador and his second was Karen Wilder.

The warlord dueled under the banner of Clan Bale, forest green with a blue claw mark in the middle. His second was Artemus Kurgen.

The baron, to keep with Bran's other challenges, chose a best of three.

The first duel started out with a trade

of duel thrusts. After the next round of matching low cuts, Bran scored no more while G scored the next four rounds to end this duel in 6 with a score of 5-1.

Duel two started off slower, with no point scored until the third round by Bran, catching the stepping G. The baron tied it up in round 5, thrusting over Bran's low swing then Bran dropped under G's high cut to never give up the lead again. G kept it close for the most part until Bran nickeled himself to the win in round 18, blocking the baron's low swing for a score of 6-5.

The third and decisive duel started off with bran scoring first, attacking over G's swing but the baron tied it up in round two, catching the stepping warlord with a high cut. This duel seesawed back and forth with one leading and the other tying it up then to take the lead the next round then reversing.Tied up in the tenth, the warlord swung high but the baron was waiting, blocking with a prry that gave him the win 5-4 and allowed him to keep his ring.
